As could be seen in this article recently the population of Leptodactylus fallax, otherwise known as the mountain chicken, has made a comeback. Due to the hunting and the poisoning of the species by the chytrid fungus which has decreased its native population by eighty percent. A couple dozen were taken and transferred to zoos in both Britain and USA where they have raised their population levels. Now some of the toads bred in habitat have been relocated back to try to reintroduce them to their natural habitat which has so far been hopeful.
As can be seen in this article renewable resources such as solar and wind have been thriving despite the drop in oil and gas prices. This is partially do to the fact that prices for renewable energy have also dropped along with oil and gas prices due to government incentives and that demand for these renewable resources has also risen. These resources also have high corporate support which helps it continue to thrive alongside oil and gas and may ultimately replace them. This shows to be a shining ray off hope that the change to renewable resources may not be such an impossible dream.
As can be seen in this article Brazil's federal police has accused seven people and three companies, one which is the mining giant Vale for the major Samarco’s Fundão dam collapse in Brazil which released a flood of sludge that buried the surrounding rural villages, killed 19 people and polluted more than 400 miles of the Rio Doce basin. This has caused roughly $5 billion in civil lawsuits for the blamed companies and the Federal Police cited several elements of Brazil’s environmental-crimes law as grounds for its accusations.
In this article Dutch designer Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, has announced the first ocean cleaning system. This gigantic flotation device utilizes the oceans natural currents into trapping plastic. This is still a very experimental product and will hopefully be put onto trial in 2016 off the coast of Tsushima, Japan to test how efficient and effective this device will be and if it truly is the answer to our problem of plastic covered oceans.
